How to be a supportive wifey.....

 Ever since Nathan and I started dating I have always supported him in anything he set his mind too.

First it was his music. He is a fantastic musician, whether it be the guitar, drums, piano or writing his own songs. I have bought him a couple instruments over the last couple years, don’t exactly know what they do as they are weird pedals, but he appeared to love them. He in turn wrote and composed the song for me to walk down the aisle too at our wedding, it made our day soo much more special.

 After the wedding, he then started to take up exercising as a hobby. Started with the gym, and then boxing. I guess the UFC had a large impact on him wanting to do this. He was really good at it, however he unfortunately become sick and couldn’t continue the boxing unfortunately without causing harm to himself. I will go into those trials and tribulations on another day.

So after hanging up the gloves, the running started. It started with a couple Km's and then 10, 15, 20 and then in Jan 2010, he completed his first Marathon. I was extra proud of him and surprisingly he didn’t look like he was going to die after running 42km.

In addition to the running came the triathlons. He has now competed in a few tri's and in the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon a couple weekends ago. I even decked my self out with supporter gear, made my own t-shirt "my husband tri's harder", which people though was super and asked to take photos of it. The only downside of this sport is the starting times. I could think of better things to be doing at 4am in the morning, eg. sleeping than getting up to go and watch hundreds of men run around in tight pants with no underwear on (that scares me). I was super sick last weekend, however still got up at 4 to go and cheer for him (i sounded like a frog from the sidelines though).

How I figured out the tell tale signs of what his next sport would be was by the magazines in the toilet:

Music Guides -> UFC/Boxing -> Running Magazines -> Triathlon

Now, tips on how to be a supportive wifey
  1. Pretend they are children, and take sunscreen where ever you go if they are into sport related activities.
  2. Always have the camera charged
  3. Make sure you have enough space for photos on the camera. (don’t do what I did and tell Nathan to slow down 100m from the finish line as I haven’t got space on the camera to capture him finishing 42km)
  4. Don’t be afraid to show your support, make a t-shirt, make a sign, scream, yell and clap for them
  5. Don’t stay in bed as it might be to early to get up, you might miss something special and you will kick yourself after.
  6. Buy them presents to encourage their hobby, they will then be happy to know your supportive of what they are doing.
  7. Bake for them (that makes anyone happy :) )
Also, I wouldnt change the 4am wake-ups, the travelling or anything else for that matter, I love my husband to bits, and will always be there to support him :)

Well thats all I can think of now
Blog you later
